Marleny Rodriguez

Marleny Rodriguez is an intern and doctoral student, currently enrolled in her sixth year in the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program at Immaculata University. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from La Salle University and her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Immaculata University. Marleny has worked in various settings during her training, including a substance use recovery health clinic, an inpatient hospital, a private practice, and a college counseling center. Marleny considers herself a client-centered therapist but also utilizes interventions from other theoretical frameworks, such as CBT and psychoanalytic theory. Marleny prioritizes creating a safe space for her clients, so they feel more comfortable sharing their story. Her therapeutic style is also very collaborative, so she and her clients can work together to help them move toward change. In her pastime, Marleny enjoys reading novels, listening to music, and going on walks.

My approach to therapy

Marleny believes her clients know themselves best. For that reason, she often encourages clients to take the lead in their treatment, and Marleny is there to provide guidance. By using this approach, clients are able to consider more what they think will work for them since different things work for different people. This also allows Marleny to work with clients with where they are at, creating a supportive space. Sometimes it takes small steps to see bigger changes, and Marleny helps clients figure out which steps seem reasonable while encouraging self-compassion along the way since the journey can be difficult. .
