Rutgers University requires Full Time and all F&J Rutgers Visa Sponsored Students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. MANDATORY ACTION REQUIRED EACH SEMESTER!
The Health Insurance Premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester when class registration is completed. The SHIP is optional for part-time domestic students and the premium is not added to the term bill.The premium (per semester) will be available by late July.
Fall Deadline: September 25, 2025
Spring Deadline: February 10, 2026
Does your health insurance meet the waiver requirements? If yes, you may complete the waiver form each semester before the deadline, to have the Student Health Insurance premium removed from the term bill.
Does your health insurance NOT meet the waiver requirements? If yes, you may complete the enrollment form each semester before the deadline.
Checklist:
- Register for classes. You do not have to wait on the term bill to complete step 2.
- Wait three (3) business days to complete the waiver/enrollment form online.
Visit www.universityhealthplans.com to waive or enroll each semester before the deadline dates. Open waiver/enrollment: Fall begins late-July and Spring begins mid-December. F&J Rutgers Visa Sponsored Students must contact Rutgers Global for the waiver process.

- Compliance Management—Hard Waiver Policy on the Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick campuses.
- Student Advocacy—students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) with eligibility concerns, medical bills, claims and act as liaison between UHCSR, providers on/off campus and within the Rutgers community.
- Injury claims—Guidance for on and off campus injury-related medical bills; available to full-time and all F&J Rutgers visa sponsored students.
