Rachel Thuer attended Chestnut Hill College as a first-generation college student, where she was accepted into a 5-year bachelors/master’s program, that allowed her to start taking graduate level courses after her freshman year of college. Upon graduation with her master’s degree, she started working as a psychiatric emergency screener for Gloucester County. Dr. Thuer then started working as an in-home/in-community emergency responder to children and families in crisis, and she moved on to become an in-home family therapist with families that had children involved in the justice system. She continued to work full-time while pursuing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Immaculata University. She completed an internship where her time was split between Rutgers University Camden Student Wellness Center and Bancroft Neurohealth, where she completed neuropsychological evaluations and provided treatment to individuals with traumatic brain injury. She has been working at the Rutgers Camden Student Wellness Center as a full-time psychologist since 2017. Dr. Thuer has previously served on the board of the South Jersey Psychological Association. Her professional interests include treatment of depression, anxiety, family conflict, relational concerns, suicide prevention and treatment, and supervision and training. Her personal interests include running, swimming, and volunteering as a swim official.
My Approach to Treatment
Dr. Thuer feels therapy is an opportunity for us to explore how your personal history, self-talk, trauma, and past relationships all impact your current thoughts, feelings, and relational patterns. It is important for us to look at this information without judgement so we can work together to let go of unrealistic self-expectations and self-blame. This information can be used to help heal old wounds, allow you to be more empowered to make more informed future life choices; and develop healthier patterns of behavior, in relationships, and within your own thoughts. I look forward to working with you in a collaborative relationship to help you achieve your goals.
